24 Students Bag First Class At AUN

The American University of Nigeria, Yola, last weekend graduated 24 students with first class honours who were also rewarded accordingly by the school and other private organisations.
During the 7th commencement ceremony of the institution which witnessed the graduation of a total number of 210 students of which 184 were undergraduates and 19, masters degree holders, saw students like Hephzber Obiora, Toyibat Oluuwatope Olonade and Aisha Aajoke Alimi carting away several awards and cheques.
During the ceremony, the president of the institution, Prof Margee Ensign charged the graduands thus: “Today is called Commencement, it marks not only the successful completion of your work with us, but most importantly it marks the start of something new; the start of your life as a university graduate, your life as an educated citizen of a democratic country.”
“Your community service program, fixing up schools, teaching young people to read and write, teaching their parents to read and write, helping to clean up the environment, and especially feeding the poor and displaced.”
“Central to the process of development is what happens in the political system, for development isn’t just about buying and selling; it isn’t just about the rising GNP or increasing foreign investment. Development is about opening up opportunity. It is about fostering dreams. It is about creating justice for everyone; creating prosperity for everyone. It is about forging a truly sustainable future. And perhaps, above all, it is about giving everyone, a voice and hope to the future.”
The national chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in his speech, stated that the fresh graduates will be looked upon towards contributing their quota in national development as the nation needs to move from its present status.
“These are hard times. And when the times are hard, the tough gets going. You are going to join us in proffering solution to the new direction, the new trajectory on which this nation is going to embark from May 29, 2015.”
